Spotlight on Autauga & Elmore: Health Care

Autauga and Elmore counties are served by three hospitals, each of which provides a variety of services for their patients.

Prattville Baptist Hospital

Prattville Baptist Hospital is a part of Baptist Health, which is the largest healthcare system serving central Alabama, providing comprehensive hospital-based and outpatient services to residents in central Alabama.

Baptist Health serves the community and local businesses with a wide range of wellness programs and services, from open-heart surgery and rehabilitative services to community outreach and support groups encompassing almost any medical need or problem.

Prattville Baptist Hospital offers general medical and surgical care, as well as a variety of specialty services. The radiology department, including outpatient diagnostics at Prattville Medical Park, provides advanced inpatient and outpatient imaging services, including diagnostic, ultrasound, CT and MRI.

The advanced Sleep Disorders Center provides diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea, insomnia and other disruptive sleep conditions. Prattville Baptist provides outpatient surgical services in four primary specialties, including general surgery, gastroenterology, podiatry and ophthalmology.

In 2021, the hospital invested $6.5 million to open a new 22-bed wing designed for inpatient psychological and behavioral care for older patients.

Community Hospital

Elmore County

Community Hospital, Tallassee

Community Hospital in Tallassee is a private, nonprofit health care facility with a full range of inpatient and outpatient services. It is one of the area’s largest employers. It provides 24-hour emergency services, medical/surgical care, ICU services, cardiopulmonary, GI lab, therapy services, imaging and more.

Community Hospital also offers a short-term care program housed in a 10-bed unit aimed at helping seniors gain better function. It also has a Community Skilled Care and Rehab program that assists patients who need rehabilitative and post-acute care before returning to their home or residential facility, Community Home Care and Community Hospice Care.

Elmore Community Hospital

Elmore Community Hospital

Elmore Community Hospital in Wetumpka, a division of Ivy Creek Healthcare, is one of the county’s largest employers.

The hospital provides outpatient services such as X-ray, MRI, CT, digital mammogram, bone density and ultrasound. The hospital is equipped with a 24/7 ER.

ECH also provides an inpatient chemical dependency program and a sleep disorders center.

In June 2020, Ivy Creek opened River Oak Medical Complex in Wetumpka offering a variety of specialty medical services, a pharmacy and more, which was made possible through a partnership between Ivy Creek Healthcare, the Elmore County Commission and the city of Wetumpka.
