Robins & Morton is in the process of constructing two build-to-suit facilities for Northrop Grumman in Huntsville.
Robins & Morton is working with Corporate Office Properties Trust on the $103 million project that will give Northrop Grumman an additional 236,000 square feet of space in Huntsville’s Redstone Gateway development.
Northrop Grumman has steadily been expanding in the Rocket City. It opened a new facility last October in Cummings Research Park. It currently has more than 2,000 employees in the area serving Department of Defense and NASA customer missions.
These two buildings are primarily concrete structures, built using a tilt-wall process. Robins & Morton poured, then erected, 76 concrete panels earlier this fall to assemble the building’s exterior structure. The team used a 1.9 million-pound Manitowoc MCL-650 crane to safely erect the 48-foot story, 60-foot tall panels, and then stack the remaining 28 single story, 17-foot tall panels. In total, the panels weighed more than 9.5 million pounds. The team completed the structure in just six months.
Now, Robins & Morton employees are finishing the exterior skin and interior buildout of each building. The two-building campus will include a 144,000-square-foot parking garage and is scheduled to be complete in the second half of this year.
Robins & Morton is serving as general contractor with Powers Brown Architecture serving as architect on the project.
Robins & Morton is headquartered in Birmingham with an office in Huntsville. It also has offices in Charlotte, North Carolina; Dallas and San Antonio, Texas; Nashville, Tennessee; and Miami, Orlando and Tampa, Florida.
