Northwest-Shoals to invest $30M in Phil Campbell campus

Projects include new campus plaza, renovations to other buildings

At a community town hall meeting, Northwest-Shoals Community College President Jeff Goodwin unveils plans for the Phil Campbell campus.

Northwest-Shoals Community College has announced plans for a $30 million investment in its Phil Campbell campus.

A new campus feature — Patriot Plaza — is planned as the centerpoint for student life.

In addition to the 5,400-sqaure-foot plaza, college plans call for renovation of 60,000 square feet of current structures.

The library and Building 307 will be renovated to provide modern space for the nursing program and Building 305 will be revamped into classrooms, office space and space for community meetings.

“It is past time for our facilities to resemble the amazing education that takes place inside our classrooms every day,” said NW-SCC President Jeff Goodwin. “This campus is where community colleges started in our state, and we want it to be the model for community colleges moving forward.

“The expectations of our students and the way they take classes have changed a lot in the last 60 years,” Goodwin added. “Many of our courses are taken online and through dual enrollment. However, this plan will help us to give our Phil Campbell campus a nice modern look with upgraded technology while maximizing our space in a very efficient way.”
