Northwest-Shoals Community College launches $30 million building project

Projects slated for both the Shoals and Phil Campbell campuses

NW-SCC Interim President Chris Cox announces a major building program at the school’s two campuses.

Northwest-Shoals Community College announced plans this week for a $30 million, two-year building project. Capital improvements and upgrades to current facilities are planned on both the Shoals campus and the Phil Campbell campus.

Funding for the improvements comes from the college and the Alabama Community College System, including Public School and College Authority bond issue funds appropriated by the state legislature.

Specific projects still require approval of the ACCS board of trustees.

Improvements are designed to offer students a quality learning environment, said NW-SCC interim president Chris Cox. “These campus upgrades will expand and enhance our ability to provide our students greater opportunities to pursue educational and workforce development programs that will support the needs of the businesses and industry in our area.”

ACCS Chancellor Jimmy H. Baker said he expects the projects to improve not only the campuses but the surrounding community. “Community is in our name and projects like these help our colleges better serve the communities where they reside. NW-SCC is a special place and great things are on the horizon for the college, its students, and the communities we serve.”
