Northrop Grumman Systems Corp. has been awarded a $481.3 million contract to update and improve the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System’s software and a major portion of the work will be performed in Huntsville.
Work also will be performed at Northrop Grumman facilities in McLean, Virginia; Linthicum Heights, Maryland; and Orlando, Florida.
The Integrated Battle Command System provides warfighters an expanded view of the battlefield, allowing for quick action. This air and missile defense strategy is designed to integrate all domains into one command and control system, according to Northrop Grumman’s website. The IBCS has been in development for quite some time, with initial flight tests conducted as early as 2015. In late 2023, the first production Integrated Collaborative Environment (ICE) was delivered to the U.S. Army.
