A new mixed-use community focused on health and wellness is coming to Hoover. Riverwalk Village will include medical offices, walking trails, green spaces, housing and retail areas. It is a project of the city of Hoover, Regions Bank and Healthcare Resources.
“Riverchase is a beautiful, Class A office park, which has been an important part of our city’s development,” said Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato. “As the global economy changes, it is smart planning to reimagine what these areas can become. Riverwalk Village’s combination of wellness, business, residential and clinical care will help propel Hoover into our next chapter.”
The new development will be located on a 90-acre tract near Riverchase Parkway, which includes 450,000 square feet of existing corporate office space. It will include the Riverwalk Health & Wellness Center, offering a range of health care services for all stages of life. Development company Healthcare Resources is under contract to purchase the site.
The project was facilitated by the Hoover Health Care Authority, established by the city of Hoover in 2021. The authority’s vision is to create and promote an innovative medical district within the city, which will expand clinical opportunities for residents while also promoting research companies to locate in the area.
“Hoover needs enhanced health care opportunities to keep pace with our continued growth. The Hoover Health Care Authority is excited to have great partners as we expand the availability of innovative wellness, diagnostic, treatment and restorative services for our residents and visitors,” said Alan Paquette, chair of the Hoover Health Care Authority.
The project represents an expansion of Regions Bank’s North and South Buildings. Regions will maintain a significant presence in the existing and new development. It is one of Shelby County’s largest employers. It also will continue to own and manage its Riverchase Operations Center, located just a short distance from the Riverwalk Village site.
Riverwalk Village is being developed by Healthcare Resources in conjunction with Corporate Realty and Home Communities Company. Brasfield & Gorrie, Goodwyn Mills Cawood and Earl Swensson Architects are all involved on building and refurbishing existing buildings as part of the project.
