The Town of Elkmont opened its new $1 million town hall, providing a permanent structure for government services, as well as a storm shelter.
Built by The Highland Group, with Scott Wilson Architects providing the plans for the facility, the building took a year to complete. The construction was made possible through a low-interest loan from the USDA.
“Since the 1800s, the governing officials of the Town of Elkmont have met in various buildings with multiple purposes,” said Tracy Compton, Elkmont mayor. “The new town hall marks a new era for our community. The citizens of Elkmont deserve a seat of government that is fully functioning and dedicated to improving our quality of life. This building is a testament to our community’s high standards.”
The facility, located in downtown, provides space for municipal operations, as well as a back entrance for the police department. Future town projects include a $1 million Transportation Alternatives Program grant for Upper Fort Hampton Road and improving a building adjacent to the new town hall.
