New Elkmont Town Hall opens

A $1 million, one-year project opens, providing citizens with government service areas and a storm shelter

The Town of Elkmont opened its new $1 million town hall, providing a permanent structure for government services, as well as a storm shelter.

Built by The Highland Group, with Scott Wilson Architects providing the plans for the facility, the building took a year to complete. The construction was made possible through a low-interest loan from the USDA.

ā€œSince the 1800s, the governing officials of the Town of Elkmont have met in various buildings with multiple purposes,ā€ said Tracy Compton, Elkmont mayor. ā€œThe new town hall marks a new era for our community. The citizens of Elkmont deserve a seat of government that is fully functioning and dedicated to improving our quality of life. This building is a testament to our community’s high standards.ā€

The facility, located in downtown, provides space for municipal operations, as well as a back entrance for the police department. Future town projects include a $1 million Transportation Alternatives Program grant for Upper Fort Hampton Road and improving a building adjacent to the new town hall.
