The historic Fairview Farmers Market in Montgomery is soon to undergo a major renovation at its 60 Fairview Avenue location.
As part of the city’s Fairview Avenue Master Plan, the market is set to be modernized and expanded.
“The farmers market is important because it brings about fresh food options for residents who don’t have some of the opportunities for the type of food and the type of wellness that we’d like to see them have here in the city,” said Mayor Steven Reed.
The renovation is expected to unfold over the next 18 months and, according to city leaders, will act as a catalyst for new business activity in West Montgomery.
The market renovation is among several other public investments in the area, including a $19 million fire station, a new transit station and an ongoing $9 million infrastructure project along West Fairview Avenue that began in 2024 and includes improved drainage, sidewalks, landscaping and new traffic signals.
“Over the next 18 months, we’re going to get to watch as Fairview is truly transformed into a viable commercial corridor, which this area desperately needs,” said Montgomery Council Member Andrew Szymanski.
Working on the farmers market project are Alabama-based construction firms DuBose Construction Co. and Goodwyn Mills Cawood.
