Mercedes-Benz U.S. International has plans for yet another expansion of its Vance plant, this time adding a $70 million, 500-worker parts consolidation center.
The automaker has selected B.L. Harbert International to build the facility, which is slated to open next year.
The Tuscaloosa Industrial Development Authority has awarded $3.9 million in tax incentives for the project, according to a report in the Birmingham Business Journal.
Early in April, MBUSI announced the opening of a new health care and wellness center on the Vance campus, available to employees and their dependents covered by the company health care plan. The center offers easy access to health care for both acute and chronic conditions, offering access to physicians, nurse practitioners and support staff with no co-pays and no deductibles. Some prescriptions also will be dispensed on site.
The new center will be managed by CareHere LLC, a Tennessee firm that specializes in on-site health care centers at self-insured companies.
