Historic Alabama: Ingalls Iron Works

A glimpse at Ingalls Iron Works in 1944

In this photo, a funnel is being pre-assembled at the Ingalls Iron Works Company in Birmingham in March 1944. The photo information indicates it’s being prepared for shipment to the Ingalls Shipbuilding Corp. in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Ingalls Iron Works opened in 1910 in the Titusville area of Birmingham. The site was sold to Trinity Industries in 1981. Photo courtesy of the Alabama Department of Archives and History.
