Equipment is shown at the Alabama Metallurgical Corp. (Alamet) in Selma on May 11, 1960. The plant processed dolomite from Shelby County to produce magnesium. The company was formed in the late 1950s. In the mid-1960s, it was completely absorbed by Calumet and Hecla Inc., which owned 70% of the company from the start.
