Gomez Research Expands Research with $10M Contract

Gomez Research Associates is working on how to detect unmanned aerial systems like this Elbit Systems Hermes 900 aerial vehicle that is capable of medium altitude long endurance tactical missions, shown here at the Singapore Airshow in 2012.

Gomez Research Associates Inc., of Huntsville, has been awarded a $10 million modification to a previously awarded Navy contract that will continue support for counter improvised explosive devices and unmanned aerial system technology.

This option enables the government to use and build upon the Small Business Innovation Research Phase I and Phase II efforts by expanding on Gomez Research’s current research into buried improvised explosive devices/unmanned aerial system detection. The company’s research into detection is exploring how the detection can be practically used with present counter rocket, artillery and mortar systems.

Sixty percent of the work will be performed in Huntsville with another 20% in Bulgaria, 15% in Serbia and 5% in the Ukraine. The work is expected to be completed by September 2021. The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Indian Head Explosive Ordnance, Disposal Technology Division in Maryland is the contractor of the project.
