Rise, a multifamily development firm based in Jacksonville, Florida, has announced plans to develop, build and manage a 259-unit development in Birmingham. Iron & Oak, on Beacon Parkway East, will encompass just over 304,000 square feet. It’s estimated to be completed in summer 2023. – Rise

 

State receives $1 million economic development grant

Alabama has received a $1 million federal grant to assist in addressing pandemic and climate change-related issues. The grant is targeted specifically toward economic development projects. —  Alabama Political Reporter

Research will explore Black-owned businesses

A five-year research project led by the University of Alabama will look at the hurdles that face urban and rural Black businesses in Alabama and how they differ from those encountered by other businesses. The team at UA, led by Dr. Lou Marino, will partner with a team from Babson College in Massachusetts. – Selma Sun

 

Birmingham chefs plan new wine bar

Chefs Kristen Hall and Victor King, the duo behind Birmingham’s popular The Essential and Bandit Patisserie, are planning now to open a wine bar called Bar La Fete. The bar is set to open in 2022 on First Avenue North. – AL.com
