Faulkner University has been approved to add physical therapy to is College of Health Sciences this fall. The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education approved the accreditation status in late April.
The new PT program will begin Aug. 23 and is approved up to a maximum entering class of 50 students. Student applications are being accepted now through the end of May.
The program will allow students to earn a Doctor of Physical Therapy, which will allow students to apply for licensure to practice as physical therapist.
The program involves a combination of classroom learning and clinical experiences. Students will complete 32 weeks of full-time clinical education and up to six weeks of integrated clinical and community-based experiences. During the eight semesters of the program, students will practice their skills in a variety of clinical settings, working side by side with other disciplines.
The program’s accreditation comes on the heels of the completion of phase one of the University’s Health Science Center. In June 2020, Faulkner University announced that it had purchased the 13-acre Montgomery East Plaza Shopping Center, which it would transform into the new site of its College of Health Sciences. Renovations began in October 2020, and phase one consisted of renovations to the lobby, computer lab, teaching lab, classrooms, offices, anatomy lab, physical therapy research lab, other lab areas, clinical practice area, physician assistant exam area and community clinic.
