Eat Up, Alabama

Alabama’s Department of Tourism has christened 2012 The Year of Food—with tributes to fine dining, fun dining and all things edible throughout the year. A repeat of a very successful tourism emphasis in 2004, this year’s events kicked off in late January with the gathering of food writers, photographers and bloggers.

Watch for events honoring Conecuh sausage and Dothan peanuts, a barbecue trail, great deals at some of Alabama’s finest restaurants and republication of the popular “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die.”

It’s a good year to repeat the successful campaign, says tourism Director Lee Sentell, “but this time we want to highlight local food and our great chefs.”
