Construction crews don’t usually get to work on a project multiple times, but that is what recently happened at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center in Montgomery.
Birmingham-based Doster Construction Co. completed renovations to the hotel in mid-November. Doster had originally built the hotel, spa and convention center more than 10 years ago for the Retirement Systems of Alabama and has completed numerous renovations to the facility since it first opened.
The project, designed by Goodwyn Mills and Cawood and launched in mid-March, renovated each of the 347 guest rooms, along with the lobby, restaurant and other common areas.
“It’s exciting to get to go back to a project that you built from the ground up,” said Brian Corley, senior project manager for Doster. “I was the project manager for Doster during construction of the original hotel, and it’s a compliment for the Retirement Systems of Alabama to ask us back again and again to continue improvements to the facility.”
The hotel’s rooms and suites offer a fusion of classic and modern design elements, including providing ergonomic workstations and flat-panel TVs, wi-fi and lots of natural lighting through windows that provide views of downtown Montgomery. Guests can also take advantage of the many therapeutic treatments offered by the spa and the attached convention center attracts thousands to downtown Montgomery.
