College students visit Mobile to check out job opportunities

Chamber’s Showcase Mobile project also offers a taste of the city

More than 120 students from 13 colleges and universities are visiting Mobile today and tomorrow to get a taste of the city and an introduction to some of the region’s biggest employers.

Hosted by the Mobile Area Chamber of Commerce, the first annual Showcase Mobile event includes both city and industry tours for the college juniors and seniors.

“Our goal is to show off Mobile as the place to launch their careers after college,” said Mobile Chamber President and CEO Bradley Byrne. “We have so many growing opportunities across different industry sectors, paired with a vibrant local culture just minutes from the water, I can’t think of a better place to jumpstart your career.”

Participating students could select a field such as aerospace, maritime or chemicals and tailor their visit to those industries, with a chance to tour major employers and learn about job opportunities.

Participating companies include Airbus, Alabama Power, AM/NS Calvert, Amazon, APM Terminals, Austal USA, Continental Aerospace Technologies, Gwin’s Commercial Printing, Evonik, Infirmary Health, Outokumpu, SSAB, ST Engineering, USA Health and Vertex.

David Rodgers, the chamber’s vice president of economic development, added, “These are all high demand and high wage industries. The number one challenge for local employers is attracting qualified talent. Showcase Mobile is just one of the many ways the Mobile Chamber is getting the word out about job opportunities in the Mobile area.”
