Businesses pledge $8 million to Birmingham Promise
The largest gift to date to Birmingham Promise, $5 million from Vulcan Value Partners, is among the $8 million in pledges announced Tuesday by Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama, Protective Life Corp. and Alabama Power also pledged $1 million each to the program that provides scholarships and apprenticeships for some students attending in-state schools. – Alabama NewsCenter

Alabama among worst states for millennials, survey says
Alabama is the 8th worst state for millennials to live in and work in, according to a new survey from WalletHub. The survey tracked categories like number of millennials living with parents, monthly earnings, home ownership and instances of depression. The top five areas for millennials are the state of Washington, District of Columbia, Utah, Massachusetts and Iowa.  – WHNT 19

Developer wins $3.78 million judgment against Orange Beach
Developer and Orange Beach resident Ian Boles won a $3.78 million judgment against the city of Orange Beach. Boles had claimed lost rental income and future developments because of arbitrary rules that were only enforced against him. – OBA

Mobile’s Serda Brewing closing
Serda Brewing, the first brewery to open in downtown Mobile following the relaxation of Alabama’s craft-beer production laws, has been sold to an out-of-state brewer. The new owner of the Government Street brewery will be announced next week. – AL.com
