Bridge construction over Intracoastal Waterway resumes

Construction of a bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway has resumed after a four-month legal delay. The two-lane bridge had been delayed because of accusations that Alabama Department of Transportation Director John Cooper had acted in bad faith toward the owners of a toll bridge a mile away from the new bridge in Gulf Shores.   – WKRG 5

 

Birmingham restaurant shuttering after 86 years

Lloyd’s Restaurant, a fixture in the Birmingham metro area for 86 years, will close its Inverness location on Oct. 15. The restaurant’s second location, which opened this year, will remain open.  – AL.com

Birmingham company receives DoD contract for gate work

Birmingham-based Steward Machine Co. has been awarded a $9.3 million contract to replace tainter gates – those used in locks and dams to control water flow — in New London, Missouri. The contract came from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. – Defense Daily
