Birmingham-based Brasfield & Gorrie has begun construction on a multi-tenant data center for DC Blox in Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina.

The data center is a first-of-its-kind center in South Carolina that will provide enterprises and government entities throughout the state an interconnected data center.

DC Blox has similar centers in Birmingham, Huntsville, Atlanta and Chattanooga.

Brasfield & Gorrie is general contractor for the project, expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021.

“We’re grateful to partner again with DC Blox and CEO Jeff Uphues, who are making a vital investment in the Upstate,” Brasfield & Gorrie Vice President and Division Manager Ben Barfield said of the South Carolina project. “Brasfield & Gorrie brings significant mission-critical expertise to this project, having completed more than $2 billion in mission-critical projects company-wide. DC Blox’s investment will have a significant impact on the Greenville community, where Brasfield & Gorrie has worked for more than 30 years.”

The new data center is expected to bring $200 million in investment between DC Blox and its tenant customers. That would be the largest investment reported by the Greenville Area Development Corp. in the past five years.
