Bishop State completes expansion at its Southwest Instructional Site

The $15 million renovation and expansion enhances student amenities and workforce training programs

Bishop State Community College has completed an expansion and renovation of its Southwest Instruction Site at 925 Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile. The $15 million project enhances instructional spaces, student amenities and workforce training programs.

“This is more than a ribbon-cutting for us. It’s a statement about who we are and where we’re going as an institution,” said Olivier Charles, president of Bishop State. “Today we celebrate not only what the Southwest Site is, but what it will continue to become as we grow, innovate and prepare our students for high-demand careers.”

The project includes a new cosmetology and nail technology wing, a new HVAC instructional wing, expanded aviation training space, a redesigned multipurpose room, a student lounge and gaming center, new administrative offices, entrance and lobby, additional classrooms and updated library.

In addition to the Southwest Site project, Bishop State has recently invested in projects at its other campuses. It has completed a $10.6 million renovation at the Carver Instructional Site in early 2025. And the Delchamps Student Life Complex at the downtown campus is currently undergoing a renovation, expected to be complete in 2027.

“These projects represent our commitment to ensuring students and faculty have access to modern facilities, state-of-the-art equipment and environments that support learning, collaboration and innovation,” Charles said.
