Less than six months after opening a 100,000-square-foot distribution center in Mobile, BendPak has started construction on a 70,000-square-foot warehouse next door.
The California-based firm, which makes vehicle lifts and automotive service equipment, bought the second property just 30 days after completing the first structure. Existing buildings were demolished and construction is about to start on the facility to provide additional inventory, staging and shipping space, offices, a conference room and a call center.
“It’s hard to believe that construction is already underway,” said BendPak Executive Vice President Jeff Kritzer. “When we initiate a plan, we don’t like to waste time. Once a decision is made, it’s all hands on deck. That’s one thing I think we do better than anyone else. The idea of our first East Coast expansion only materialized in the fall of 2019, and yet just six short months later, we were already operational … and growing.”
BendPak is using its Mobile facilities for quicker access to East Coast customers, describing the site as “the heart of one of America’s largest logistic hubs,” with next-day or two-day delivery to most of its East Coast customers.
“We are focused on bringing our car lifts and garage equipment geographically closer to our customers to improve lead times and customer service,” said Don Henthorn, BenkPak president and CEO.
The firm is also expanding its California facilities.
