Ascend Birmingham, a supportive environment for individuals ages 18-24 along the Highway 280 corridor, has opened its multi-family section.
The 2.32-acre project is a collaboration among Nequette Architecture & Design, Signature Homes and Big Oak Ranch. The goal of the project is to provide housing for more than 40 young adults who have left the foster-care system and who are transitioning from high school to higher education or career training. Big Oak Ranch’s Ascend program also provides practical life skills training to these students.
For the project’s design, Nequette Principal Architect Jared Calhoun and Designer Arden Gillchrest drew inspiration from the traditional ranch-style aesthetics of the Big Oak Ranch and adapted it to an urban context.
Signature Homes is an employee-owned residential real estate development company with communities across Alabama and Tennessee. Big Oak Ranch, a faith-based organization founded more than 50 years ago, is focused on supporting abused, neglected or abandoned children.
