Alabama sees record low unemployment

The state’s May unemployment figures show just 61,621 unemployed persons, a new record low rate of 2.7%. At the same time, average wages have reached a record high. – Alabama Political Reporter

 

Four Alabama cities noted for less expensive rents

Decatur, Athens, Florence and Gadsden are all listed on 24/7 Wall Street’s ranking of the 50 U.S. cities with the lowest rents. Decatur ranked 35 with average monthly rental of $692; Athens 15 with $657; Florence 14 at $655; and Gadsden 7 at $645. – 24/7 Wall Street

Boeing pledges $8 million to HBCUs, including 2 in Alabama

Boeing Co. has announced a $8 million investment through the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to develop future technical talent. Among the HBCU schools participating in Boeing’s program are Alabama A&M and Tuskegee University. – Boeing

 

Wallace State launches tool making apprenticeship

Wallace State Community College in Hanceville has kicked off a new registered apprenticeship program for tool makers. Participants perform two years of paid training at Reliance Worldwide in Cullman and earn an associate degree at Wallace State. – Wallace State
