Alabama retailers: Holiday spending should be near $18.75 billion

Group expects a 4% increase over last year

Holiday spending in Alabama should be near $18.85 billion, a 4% increase over last year, the Alabama Retail Association projects.

Through August 2023, taxed sales in Alabama had grown 5.5% over the same eight months in 2022, according to abstracts from the Alabama Revenue Department.

The retail association will continue its #ShopAlabama campaign, encouraging shoppers to use local retailers.

“The stores down the street or around the corner support your community in big and small ways daily,” said Rick Brown, president of the Alabama Retail Association. “By shopping with retailers based in your community or our state, you contribute to the health of your local and state economies.”
