Ignoring that old adage, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, ” the state has changed the name of its renowned and successful Alabama Development Office to the Department of Commerce and changed the title of its director to Secretary of Commerce.
“In some of the countries we visit, the function of the Alabama Development Office is not immediately recognized, ” Secretary of Commerce Greg Canfield says.
“Everyone recognizes the status and credibility of departments of commerce in other states, and by making a simple change, we are taking a step that can bring new opportunities for additional investment and trade in Alabama.”
The new department will continue working to attract domestic and international investment and to promote exports, Canfield says.
