AGC Automotive Expands in Shelby County

AGC Automotive plans to consolidate two plants into one, while expanding, in Alabama. The automotive glass supplier will add 33,000 square feet to its facility in the Shelby West Corporate Park in Alabaster. The bulk of the new space will be dedicated to warehousing, while the main plant will continue to be used for production work cells.

“The City of Alabaster and Shelby County partnered in building the Shelby West Corporate Park, which is the home to some of our most prestigious manufacturers and distribution businesses in the Birmingham region. AGC Automotive was one of our first major businesses to locate in our park putting Alabaster on the global map. The city is excited that AGC has chosen to expand its operations and continues to invest in Alabaster,” said Alabaster Mayor Scott Brakefield.

AGC Automotive  was founded as the Asahi Glass Co. in Japan in 1907. Since starting mass production in 1909, AGC has become a worldwide leader in architectural glass, automotive glass and glass substrate for liquid crystal displays.

AGC Automotive continues to innovate by creating thinner glazing products that not only help reduce vehicle weight, but also reduce noise and improve thermal comfort inside the vehicles. In addition, the company is now incorporating high performance antennas into its vehicle glazing technologies, which keeps passengers and the vehicle connected while ensuring that vehicle technology is not spoiling the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle.
