An early postcard depicting the American Trust & Savings Bank Building in Birmingham. Built on the corner of 20th Street and First Avenue North, the 21-story bank, completed in 1912, was located on what was known as the “Heaviest Corner on Earth” and was, at the time, the tallest building in Alabama. The bank merged with the First National Bank of Birmingham in 1930, and the building is known today as the John A. Hand Building. Shipt and now Landing have both been located in the Hand building.
