Construction will begin next spring on 64 new homes at the former Carraway Hospital site in Birmingham.

It’s the next phase of construction at the site that’s now home to the Coca-Cola Amphitheater.

“We couldn’t be more grateful to the Birmingham City Council, the mayor’s office and most importantly, our Northside Community neighbors as we welcome the next development on this site,” said Robert Simon, CEO of CR-Endeavors, which is developing The Star Uptown. “We didn’t get to this point without a sustained partnership, and we’re thrilled to see our collective efforts bearing fruit.”

The first phase will include 64 new homes facing Carraway Boulevard north of 17th Avenue. They will include one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, plus a community clubhouse. The first homes are expected to be ready for residents by early 2027.

“My top priority as mayor is neighborhood revitalization, and removing blight is a key part of our efforts,” Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin said. “This 50-acre site had become one of the biggest blights in our city, and we look forward to the day – soon – when we will see new life in this area.”
