22 in ’22: Janet Truitt Jenkins

Meet the Alabama women propelling the tech scene

Janet Truitt Jenkins is on a mission to prepare tomorrow’s leaders in the computer technology field. She is a professor of computer science and director of CSIS Accreditation at the University of North Alabama and provides professional development instruction to K-12 teachers on how they can use computer programming to teach mathematical concepts to their students. For her work, Jenkins has received funding from agencies such as the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education. She has a bachelor’s degree in secondary education, with concentrations in mathematics and computer science from UNA. She later earned her master’s and her doctoral degrees in computer science from the University of Alabama.
