Cars.com’s American-Made Index has given shoppers a list of the most American-made vehicles since 2006. A popular listing for the website, this year’s ranking includes all cars built in the United States, not just the top finishers.
The 2020 index ranks 91 vehicles, counting hybrid and plug-in variants as separate models. All the cars ranked boast final assembly in the U.S. for at least some portion of sales, something that can’t be said for the nearly 250 nameplates fully imported for the 2020 model year. In total, 13 automakers made the ranking.
Taking this year’s top spot was the Ford Ranger, assembled in Wayne, Michigan. With increased U.S. parts sourcing for its 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine, the Ranger’s U.S. and Canadian parts content reached 70 percent for the 2020 model year, with majority-U.S. origins for its engine and transmission.
Coming in second was the Jeep Cherokee out of Belvidere, Illinois, followed by Tesla Model S and Tesla Model 3, both out of Fremont, California.
The first Southern models to make the cut were out of Honda. The Odyssey, Ridgeline and Passport — all made in Lincoln, Alabama — came in at fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
Another Southern model to make the list was the Chevrolet Corvette, made in Bowling Green, Kentucky, which came in eighth on the list.
Rounding out the top 10 were Tesla Model X, from Fremont, California, coming in ninth and Chevrolet Colorado made in Wentzville, Missouri, which took the 10th place finish.
