West Alabama Chamber selects new leader

Kyle South will begin serving as president and CEO July 1

Kyle South has been chosen to lead the Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama. South will begin his term as president and chief executive officer effective July 1.

“Kyle has the business acumen and existing relationships already in place to continue the important role this organization plays in West Alabama to promote economic prosperity and growth,” said Michele Coley, of Allstate Coley Agency and 2023 Chamber board chair.

In December 2022, Jim Page, former Chamber president and CEO, announced that he would be leaving the organization in March 2023 to become executive vice president of MartinFederal Consulting LLC in Huntsville.

A native of Alabama, South earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alabama and was president and general manager of West Alabama TV Cable Co., overseeing all aspects of the $5 million family-owned company until it was sold in 2019.

Currently South is serving his third term as a state representative, serving District 16. He will step down from this position prior to taking his new role at the Chamber

“The opportunity to lead a 120-year-old business advocacy organization is a challenge that I feel my business experiences and serving as an elected official have prepared me for,” said South. “The Chamber has a solid reputation for serving businesses by collaborating with national, state, regional and local government entities. I want to continue to build upon those successes with the team in place at the Chamber and the volunteer network of leaders who recognize what we have here in terms of resources and opportunities.”

The Chamber, located in Tuscaloosa, has an annual budget of more than $2.1 million. In addition, it handles financial management of West AlabamaWorks and the West Alabama Chamber Foundation.
