Vrbo: Tuscaloosa, Auburn Top-earning College Towns

Everyone knows Alabama and Auburn are fierce statewide rivals. They even go head-to-head on game weekend vacation rentals, according to new data from Vrbo.

In Tuscaloosa, the average nightly rate of vacation rentals spiked to $730 and vacation rental demand increased 535 percent on average during University of Alabama home games in 2018.

On the Plains, meanwhile, the average nightly rate of vacation rentals soared to $700 and vacation rental demand increased 205 percent during Auburn University home games during the same period.

Vrbo is a Texas-based company founded in 1995 that assists homeowners to market and rent their place temporarily as a vacation spot. Its name stands for “vacation rental by owner.”
