Von Braun Center hall receives major upgrades

Huntsville’s Von Braun Center has completed $380,000 in upgrades that now make its Mark C. Smith Concert Hall able to attract major traveling productions, such as “The Phantom of the Opera.”

The upgrades were made to the hall’s steel rigging system, including new line sets over the stage, new truss over the orchestra pit and additional power for audio and truss hoists.

“This past year has been difficult for everyone across the country and in every industry, but for the entertainment industry specifically,” said Samantha Nielsen, VBC marketing & public relations manager. “However, while our stages have been dark, we made the most of the down time by improving our facility so that when the time came to welcome the community back through our doors – we would be opening better than before.”

The Von Braun Center announced the upgrades this week at an event that also featured the Broadway Theatre League. The BTL announced its rescheduled dates of postponed 2020 shows and introduced the new season lineup, which includes “Cats,” “Hairspray” and “Oklahoma!”
