Volkert Inc. has acquired Kennedy Engineering & Associates Group LLC (KEA Group), a transportation engineering firm focused on planning, design, engineering and CEI services. KEA Group also provides dispatchers for the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Coordinated Highway Assistance & Maintenance Program.
Mobile-based Volkert, a planning, design and engineering firm, will be able to expand its service offerings and its presence in Georgia and Florida with the acquisition.
“Lori Kennedy built KEA Group over 20 years and has had a long-term working relationship with Volkert,” said David Webber, Volkert East Division president. “We are gaining 68 exceptional employees.”
Based in Atlanta, KEA Group also has an office in Chipley, Florida. The company, founded in 2003, counts government agencies at the federal, state and municipal level, as well as planning agencies and commercial developers, as its clients.
“We have worked with Volkert for years and are excited to join forces,” said Kennedy, KEA Group’s founder and president. “Like KEA Group, Volkert is client focused and is committed to providing excellent service. By combining our resources, we can all continue to push our industry forward and improve our nation’s infrastructure.”
Volkert traces its roots back to 1925 in New Orleans, but moved to Mobile in the 1950s. It has been a part of some of the most significant infrastructure projects in the United States during the 20th century, including designing the longest continuous bridge over water — the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway — and planning much of the country’s interstate system.
