Violet Edwards, Madison County commissioner and an alumna of the University of Alabama in Huntsville, has been selected as a 2022 Alumni of Achievement award winner for the College of Business.
Edwards was elected to office representing District 6 in 2020, becoming the first Black woman to serve on the county commission. She is well-known in the local non-profit sector for her work with various agencies, including Christmas Charities Year-Round and the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless.
Edwards draws upon her experience as a journalist in both television and radio, non-profit management, university marketing, events coordinator, teaching as an adjunct lecturer and university development officer.
She has worked with a number of organizations including as president of the North Alabama Coalition for the Homeless, chartering president of the Madison County Chapter of Mocha Moms Inc., Leadership Huntsville/Madison County, United Way of Madison County, Council of International Educational Exchange and others. She currently serves as a board member for Girls Inc., supporting Leadership Greater Huntsville – Class 36 and president of the Academy of Academics and Arts Band and Choir Association.
