About $1 billion in tax dollars has gone to people filing fraudulent unemployment claims since the pandemic began, according to the Alabama Department of Labor, which says it also stopped another $5 billion from going to fraud. – NBC 15

 

Alabama potential site for new U.S. Steel mill

U.S. Steel says it’s looking for a site to build a $3 billion mini-mill, and Alabama is in contention. The mill would have two electric arc furnaces. U.S. Steel’s Fairfield Works in Birmingham has an electric arc furnace. – Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Paul Vercher, director of government affairs for U.S. Steel, is the new board chair for Manufacture Alabama. He succeeds Carl Gunter of International Paper in Prattville and will serve two years.  – Alabama Political Reporter
