The United Auto Workers union is petitioning the National Labor Relations Board to order a new election at Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, citing unfair labor practices. Workers from May 13-17 voted against unionizing at the Mercedes plant in Vance and at a nearby battery facility. – AL.com

Alabamian to be inducted into BBQ hall of fame

Bob Gibson, namesake of Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q in Decatur, is among the 2024 class of inductees into the American Royal Barbecue Hall of Fame. Gibson will be inducted posthumously at a ceremony in Kansas City in November. – Bama Buzz

2 airports receive ALDOT grants

The Alabama Department of Transportation has awarded more than $300,000 in state funding to two airports. The Bay Minette Municipal Airport Authority will receive about $226,000 for pavement maintenance, and the city of Fort Payne will receive about $106,000 to improve taxiways at Isbell Field.  – Alabama Political Reporter
