Alabama’s largest health care system will require that all employees in its hospitals and clinics be vaccinated for COVID-19. The University of Alabama at Birmingham Health System made the decision in part because of the high transmissibility of the Delta variant and the surge in unvaccinated inpatient cases. – UAB

Brasfield & Gorrie to build federal courthouse in Huntsville

Birmingham-based Brasfield & Gorrie was awarded a $79.8 million federal contract from the U.S. General Services Administration to build a 123,000-square-foot federal courthouse in Huntsville. Construction will begin this spring and will take about two-and-a-half years to finish.

Four announce layoffs, closures in July

Two Alabama companies, Jasper’s Corsicana Mattress Co. (42 employees) and Birmingham’s Portfolio Recovery Associates (133 employees), announced in July that they are closing in September. In addition, Daleville’s Primus Solutions says it’s laying off 132, and Gadsden’s Crothall Healthcare Environmental Services is laying off 58, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce’s WARN list. – WARN list

Gourmet pizza restaurant opening in Birmingham

Pizza Grace will open at Birmingham’s Mercantile on Morris development on Nov. 1. Owner and head chef said he looked at spaces in Washington and Chicago before settling on a location in Birmingham. – Bham Now
