The University of Alabama at Birmingham’s $50 million Proton International Center is closing for what the university says is center partner Proton International’s “inability to make payments” to various entities. The cancer treatment center opened in 2020.  – AL.com

 

Nearly $50 million in financing secured for development of historic Birmingham building

Ascent Hospitality has secured $49.8 million of construction financing to build an AC & Element hotel in the historic Brown Marx Tower in downtown Birmingham. The investment firm Peachtree Group secured the financing. – Bham Now

NASA grant will let UAH research space, lightning

A $402,000 grant from NASA to the University of Alabama in Huntsville will go to researchers studying how lightning detected in space relates to thunderstorm strengthening. The research is being conducted at UAH’s Earth System Science Center. – University of Alabama in Huntsville
