The Alabama Mobility and Power Center, a joint venture among the University of Alabama, Alabama Power and Mercedes-Benz, will be a research and development center for electric vehicles. Mitre Huntsville opening new office

Mitre Huntsville will open an office outside of the entrance to Redstone Arsenal that will be an innovation hub. The company, which works with the U.S. Army, U.S. Missile Defense Agency and others, opened its original office in Huntsville in 1982. – Business Wire

Bloomberg gives $1.8 million to Birmingham Promise

Birmingham Promise, an initiative that gives Birmingham school students apprenticeship and internship opportunities, has been awarded a $1.8 million grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies to expand its program. The grant will be spread out over three years. – City of Birmingham

 

Austal reaches San Diego agreement

Under a new agreement, Mobile-based Austal USA will use a 15-acre site in San Diego to focus on ship repair for the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command and U.S. Coast Guard ships. The site is adjacent to the U.S. Naval Base San Diego. – Naval News

 

UAH names interim president

Charles Karr, who recently retired from the University of Alabama where he was dean of the College of Engineering, will be interim president of the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He succeeds Darren Dawson, who is retiring. – University of Alabama in Huntsville
