Southern Company exec will lead Georgia Power
Chris Womack, executive vice president and president of external affairs for Southern Company, will become president of Georgia Power on Nov. 1 and chairman and CEO in the spring after the departure of Paul Bowers. Construction begins on A&M events center, arena
Huntsville’s Turner Construction has begun building Alabama A&M’s 132,000-square-foot event center and arena. The arena will have a 6,000-person capacity and will host commencement and basketball and volleyball games, among other things.  – Huntsville Business Journal

UAB director leaving for Memphis bank
Anthony Hood, director of innovation in the Office of the President and associate professor of management at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, is joining First Horizon Bank in Memphis as executive vice president and chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. – AL.com

Huntsville’s Bolton new Fiber Broadband Association president
Gary Bolton, vice president of global marketing and government affairs at ADTRAN in Huntsville, will become president and CEO of the Fiber Broadband Association effective Nov. 2.
