Military-based charter schools may be in the offing
The Alabama Senate has passed a bill allowing for the creation of military dependents-based charter schools. The bill, which now goes before the House of Representatives, allows for those schools to open on or within a mile of military bases in the state. – Montgomery Advertiser 

Central Alabama Community College has new president
Jeff Lynn, vice chancellor for workforce for the Alabama Community College System, is the new president of Central Alabama Community College in Alexander City. He will assume those duties on March 1.  – Alexander City Outlook

State Senate debates proposed gambling bill’s casino locations
The Alabama State Senate began debating Sen. Del Marsh’s gambling bill, which would start an Alabama lottery and five casinos, with some suggesting more casinos be added. The bill has been approved by the Senate Tourism Committee. If approved by the Legislature, the last hurdle is a statewide vote.  – AL.com

West Alabama chamber launches training series
The Chamber of Commerce of West Alabama on Feb. 18 will launch a five-part training series called “Business Basics in Uncertain Times.” It will include best practices from local business leaders. Bruce Henderson of Phelps, Jenkins, Gibson & Fowler will kick things off with information about employment issues related to COVID-19. Hargrove opens new Texas office
Hargrove Engineers + Construction is opening a new office in Pasadena, Texas, outside of Houston, its fourth office in the Lone Star state. The new office will support Hargrove’s clients in the oil and gas, refining, chemical and manufacturing industries.
