Judson College set to close
The Board of Trustees of the 183-year-old Judson College voted Thursday to close the women’s school. Eighteen of the board’s 24 members voted to suspend academic operations and “move through an orderly closing through Chapter 11 bankruptcy.” The college has been facing mounting debts and dwindling enrollment.  – The Alabama Baptist

C Spire bringing its fiber-based internet access to Mobile County
C Spire Fiber has begun constructing and taking pre-orders for its fiber-based Gigabit internet access in unincorporated Mobile County. The Mississippi-based telecommunications and technology company has expanded in Alabama in recent months, rolling out or announcing service in Jasper, Trussville, Helena, Northport, Tuscaloosa and Pelham.  – Cision

Hibbett opens new store in Virginia
Birmingham-based Hibbett Sports has opened up a new brick-and-mortar store in Richmond, Virginia, adding to its group of more than 1,000 stores nationwide. The 4,500-square-foot sports clothing boutique is the fourth location in the Richmond area. – Johnson City Press

UAH establishes lab with Torch Technologies gift
Huntsville’s Torch Technologies is giving $60,000 to the University of Alabama in Huntsville to establish the Torch Technologies Measurement and Instrumentation Laboratory.  The engineering lab will be equipped for experimental measurements, signal acquisition and signal interpretation that can apply to mechanical, aerospace and other engineering areas. – University of Alabama in Huntsville
