Fresh-Value to open near Gadsden
Birmingham’s Fresh-Value supermarket, which has locations in Trussville, Pell City and Bessemer, will open another location in Alabama City, near Gadsden. The company will spend $2.5 million to renovate an existing building and plans to employ at least 65 people. – The Gadsden Times
Samford University names new nursing dean
Melondie Reeves Carter is the new dean of Samford University’s Moffett & Sanders School of Nursing. Carter now is assistant dean of undergraduate programs and a professor at the Capstone College of Nursing at the University of Alabama. – Samford University
Escambia Peanut gets millions in tax credit funds
Escambia Peanut Co., which serves family farmers in the rural counties of Monroe, Escambia (Florida and Alabama) and Santa Rosa, Florida, has received $11.6 million in New Market Tax Credits Funds for its peanut plant in Flomaton. The plant will deliver its peanuts to Coastal Growers LLC, a new Atmore shelling plant, also farmer-owned and using New Markets Tax Credits for its financing. – The Atmore Advance
Capstone Building begins $13.7 million project in Georgia
Birmingham’s Capstone Building Corp. is rehabilitating four complexes in Albany, Georgia, that offer apartments for families who earn 50-60% of the area’s median income. The $13.7 million project will include 279 units. – AL.com
Birmingham’s Century Plaza purchased for $12 million
Atlanta’s Stonemont Financial Group has purchased the 65-acre Century Plaza site in Birmingham for $12 million. The purchase comes as Amazon plans to build its last-mile delivery center on the site. Lumpkin Development had bought the former shopping mall in 2017 for $3 million. – Birmingham Business Journal
