Mercedes granted tax abatement for logistics facility
The Tuscaloosa County Industrial Development Authority has agreed to a 10-year tax abatement for Mercedes-Benz U.S. for its new logistics and parts storage facility in Vance. The  facility will create more than 370 jobs and is expected to be operational in 2022. – WBRC-6 

Tuskegee vet school gets NIH grant for breast cancer research
A $1.48 million grant will allow the Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine to study the role of a specific protein in the progression of breast cancer. Deepa Bedi, an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, is principal investigator.  – Tuskegee University

Birmingham YWCA opens new literacy center
The YWCA of Central Alabama has opened its new Literacy Center in downtown Birmingham. The nonprofit is taking donations of money or books for the center, which will support those enrolled in the YW Child Development Center and afterschool enrichment program. – WBRC-6

Apartments planned for Birmingham’s Rotary Trail
The Birmingham City Council approved rezoning for a five-story apartment complex planned along the city’s Rotary Trail. Construction on The Tracks, the 273-unit apartment building, is expected to begin in February or March. – AL.com
