Amtrak has cut its long-distance schedules back, including the Crescent train, a New York-to-New Orleans route that runs through several Alabama cities. The route will be run three times a week effective Oct. 5.  – WIAT-42

Seven charged in $41 million pain clinic scam
Seven people have been charged in what the U.S. attorney’s office for the Northern District of Alabama says was a $41 million scam operated out of two north Alabama pain clinics. Charges include insurance fraud, distributing illegal drugs and receiving illegal kickbacks. – WHNT-19 

Alabama Power customers will see rate reduction, credit
On top of a 3 percent rate reduction this year, Alabama Power customers will receive a credit on their bills this month thanks to lower fuel costs. The average customer will receive a $25 credit. . – The Gadsden Times
