Alabama Shipyard awarded nearly $18 million contract
Alabama Shipyard LLC in Mobile has been awarded a $17,902,644 contract for the regular overhaul and drydocking of the USNS Washington Chambers. Work on the ship is expected to be completed by March 2021. – Marine Log 

Alabama A&M receives $3 million defense grant
A $3 million grant from the Department of Defense will help Alabama A&M University establish programs to prepare students for technical careers in national security and defense. The university is one of 12 schools selected for the grant. – WHNT-19 

Mercedes announces base price of luxury Mercedes-Maybach
Base price for the high-end Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV will be $160,500, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International announced Monday. The vehicle is being built at Mercedes’ plant in Vance in Tuscaloosa County.  – Alabama NewsCenter

Hurricane Sally assistance tops $100 million
With a month remaining to apply for disaster assistance, more than $100 million in federal assistance has already been approved. That total includes money from FEMA, the National Flood Insurance Program and low-interest disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration.  – Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) 

UAB establishes uterus transplant program
The University of Alabama at Birmingham and UAB Medicine have established the first uterus transplant program in the Southeast. The program – the fourth in the United States – will be led by Dr. Paige Porrett. – UAB News

Alabama budget funds rise despite pandemic
Alabama’s General Fund and Education Trust Fund both have grown this year, despite months of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. The General Fund is up 7% from 2019, and the Education Trust Fund has risen $209 million compared to 2019. – Alabama Political Reporter
