Mark Cuban venture tackles hookworm in Alabama
Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner and host of TV’s “Shark Tank,” is now part of a venture, the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company, that will produce low-cost versions of drugs. They’ll donate 10,000 pills of it first, an anti-parasitic pill, so researchers at the Baylor College of Medicine can study its effect on hookworm infection in rural Alabama. – Alabama NewsCenter

Two Alabama designers featured in fashion magazine
Alabama Chanin and Billy Reid, two fashion labels located in Florence, Alabama, are featured in Vogue magazine’s look at fashion in the South. The magazine highlighted Natalie Chanin’s label for using locally grown crops and Reid’s shop for bridging the gap “between the old South and the new.” – Vogue 

Regional workforce profiles released to help reach goal
Alabama’s seven workforce regions are featured in a new tool with key data points for each area, a tool the state hopes will help Alabama reach Gov. Kay Ivey’s goal of adding 500,000 credentialed Alabamians to the labor force. Each regional profile contains background information, an education snapshot, a workforce snapshot, employment access and regionsl key findings. – AlabamaWorks! 

BCA announces new board, chairman
Gary Smith of PowerSouth Energy Cooperative has been elected chairman of the Business Council of Alabama, succeeding John Mazyck. In addition, the BCA announced its 2021 board of directors, made up of people from around the state. – Business Council of Alabama
